The List
I blame Jules for this, in a continuation of my theory that nothing I do is my fault anymore.
I have a confession to make – I have yet to finish a full-length story. Ever. Well, no, to be completely accurate, I have yet to really finish anything. My writing career is scattered with unfinished things. Unfinished one-shot roleplay games, unfinished short stories, unfinished novels, unfinished fanfictions. I have, to date, finished…six things.
One was the first story in a fanfic series that I don’t have motivation for anymore. Two were one-shot fanfictions. Three were pre-story Between the Tick and the Tock things that I now want to go back and rewrite, since they work in BtTatT canon and have worked themselves into character histories and the suchlike. I just have a much better grasp on who the characters are, and what the world they live in is like. None of them (fanfic or otherwise) were really of any decent length, but I liked the story I told in each one of them, so that’s something!
Prompted by Julie’s entry, though, I went and listed all the story ideas I have had (that I can remember) since I started writing. Some of these (especially in the fanfic list) will probably not be worked on, as I will fully admit I’ve lost interest, some of them before I ever started writing them.
With no further ado,
Key
Underline: Most Personally Important Motivating Work. Like this surprises anyone?
Plain-text: things I am currently working on.
Italics: I’ve started writing it, but it’s not a focus right now.
*: I still have the idea kickin’ ‘round in my head, but haven’t done anything other than preliminary planning.
Strike: things that I do not like or still like but will probably not ever work on again, included for the sake of completion.
†: Collaborative setting created with
thejokerlaughs.
‡: Rare case, setting created by
floorlamps, I only occasionally write drabbles in it.
§: Collaborative Efforts with
sarcastic_hare. The Show is Smallcreep yanked from Between the Tick and the Tock's setting before BtTatT takes place; Aurora Serpens is far-future scifi rebooting characters from other settings [in writing drydock!], and Janus and the Wyld is an idea involving concepts from the Show setting and a rock band. It is also still in drydock.
Active Stories List: (As of 05/24/2009)
Fanfiction
*Brothers in Arms [Starsky and Hutch/MacGyver/A-Team crossover] - 2000Unnamed Pokemon Fanfic - 2004Nightmare [Alternate Universe Who] – 2005
Market Square Heroes [LOST AU] – 2007

*Chuck vs. The Winchesters [Chuck/Supernatural] - 2008
Originals
*Unnamed Layer World Project – 1998 (This interests me. I barely remember the story - it had something to do with another world and kids that got sucked there from the real world, and necklaces that were keys - but it involved a world that was set up something like a giant parking garage, all in layers. Sounds familiar...)
*Dance on a Volcano - 2000 (This was about a boy who found a volcano in his back yard that had a world under it. He had to rescue his parents from A Beast With Horns. Again, the underground bit makes me go "Hmm." And it's ironic - the creature he had to rescue his parents from is the creature I named this journal after. Oh, consistent music tastes, never let me down.)
*Sesshudiga - 2000 (This thing belongs half in fanfic. I had some huge convoluted storyline about human shapeshifters who were related to all these other characters and their adventures against Nazi shapeshifters (I am not making this up) and oh my giddy aunt I cannot possibly tell you how glad I am that I hadn't yet discovered how to post my own stuff online at this point. I still like some of the ideas [and one of my characters from this was revived as the protagonist of Torch Song] in this, but overall it's just...auuuugh.)The Adventures of Ozy Jones - 2003 (Anime crossover fursona. Three words I never ever want to say in relation to myself, ever EVER again. However, this particular incarnation of Ozy was endearing in two ways: 1. she was short lived, 2. I cannibalized her coloration and tendency for creepy stalking and turned them into Hüsker Dü, Rutherford (from Hogweed)'s alien stalker/teacher.)
†352 Widdershins - 2003
[Random Dead Zone Consumed By RP And Stupid Deleted Fanfic] - 2004-2006
Between the Tick and the Tock – 2006 (An alternate world that may or may not be a government experiment, where class warfare, hard work, death and taxes are the only constants, one of society's lowest workers gets in his head to find out why. Part sci-fi, part quest, part moral ramblings on the danger of personal stagnation and the poisoning effect of grudges.)
- Wolfwork - 2007
- He Knows, You Know - 2007
- Blame - 2007
- Compression - 2007

- I've Got A Dark Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth - 2009
- The Lower Half Of Every Face - 2009
Ikhnaton and Itsacon and Their Band of Merry Men – 2006 (A band of young men in Lancaster County Pennsylvania may be the only line of defense against aliens, ghosts and pan-dimensional invasion. My answer to Buffy, Supernatural and The X-Files, with a fair amount of musical gobbledegook tossed in.)
- The Return of the Giant Hogweed – 2006
- *18th and Fairfax - 2006 (Metaphoric sequel to Harvey.)
- If He Wants You To Snuff It - 2007

- Jigsaw – 2008
- The Web – 2008
- The Uninvited Guest – 2008
- *Miami 2017 - 2009
*Luck Be a Lady - 2006 (1920s bootlegger gryphons who have to protect the physical incarnation of Luck. Yeah, I don't know either.)
*Blind Anachronism – 2006 (History professor goes a bit insane, drags his kids and his class out to sea. I don't know. I really don't.)
*Canis Arcana – 2007 (Closest thing I have to steampunk, only I don't have airships, I have buses and trains.)
Changes in Attitudes, Changes in Latitudes - AU Zoids, set in the Metal Machine Music universe.
One of my resolutions this year is to finish things I start (see regular journal for more on this). Hopefully that'll have an effect on this list...
